Human Bones!!

Did I get your attention with the scary title for my Halloween entry? Well, sorry....it's not really a scary entry, but it does contain human bones!

We're part owners of some farmland in the Arkansas Delta. Earlier this month some bones were uncovered in one of the fields following some leveling work. An article from a newspaper in that area stated the operator of a land plane made the discovery. In truth, it was someone trespassing on our property (looking for arrowheads) that found them. Click on the link below if you'd like to read the full article.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing.

Spooky! I wonder if there used to be an ancient graveyard there or if it's an old murder.....

Trick or Treat!!

Interesting. This could be good, or it could pose problems....

Happy Halloween!!!! We're in Spook mode around here today!

Scared? Oh, I love a good bone. If I were to write the story, I would turn it around, obviously: you thought the bones were old and insignificant, but later you discovered that something sinister had taken place.

Betty - it was the best I could do for Halloween considering there's nothing particularly spooky going on around here.

Vince - It definitely had/has potential to be a bad thing. As of right now, they've concluded the archeoligical work at the site and supposedly put things back (as in dirt we just paid to have leveled) correctly. They've assured us it won't interfere with the farming. It's really scary what the government can come in and say you can or can't do!! Also, we hope the "sightseers" will stay away. Trespassing poses a great liability.

Marion - The archeologist said there are lots of burial mounds in that area, but this appears to be a random spot, not something sacred. One guess was that they might be 1000 years old. We'll know more after the dating info comes back from the U of A.

Pamel - Hope your goblins have a good evening of trick or treating!!

Dorte - Knowing who owned the land before we bought it, we did have a moment of speculation (in jest, of course) of it being something sinister! I'm not sure which would have posed more potential problems... a crime scene or a sacred burial ground! Probably the latter.

Well, I'm glad the remains will be reburied. And also that you are not a murder suspect...

So interesting. It's good to know that the bones are probably native American/50+ years old and that they will be buried with dignity. Otherwise, it could have been very upsetting.
