- Making my way through the ups and downs of life, holding fast to my favorite Bible verse: "For we walk by faith, not by sight." ~2 Corinthians 5:7. I began blogging in earnest at Yahoo360 on October 24, 2005. (briefly using LiveJournal and blog-city prior to that) In June 2008 I moved to Blogger. I'm now at WordPress where I hope to remain.

Mindless
A few years ago I completed a volunteer workshop at our local Hospice facility and would occasionally help with mailouts, filing, and other office tasks. It had been quite some time since I'd helped out when I got a phone call recently from the director. She asked if I was still interested in volunteering and if so, in what capacity. I decided it was time to jump back in and told her at this point I still preferred office work. She hesitantly asked if I'd be willing to do some shredding. It obviously isn't a very popular job. I jumped at the opportunity! There are times in life when something rote and mindless is just what you need!
Seeing the huge stack of paperwork-filled boxes to be shredded, I quickly realized it wouldn't get done in one session. Undaunted, I popped in my earbuds, plugged into the iPod on my phone, and set to work. Four hours later I'd gotten through more than half the stack and best of all, thoroughly enjoyed myself! I think the iPod on my phone must have a better "shuffle" feature than my regular iPod since I listened to such a wonderfully wide variety of music. Classic Rock, Pirate Metal, Rap, Country, Jazz, Pop, Classical, Hard Rock, R&B.... you name it, I heard it! It's not often I have the chance to listen to music without distractions. My only fear was that I'd embarrass myself by forgetting where I was and start singing out loud or dancing!
Pictured above is the Gardenia plant my husband gave me for Valentine's Day. It will look nice in our backyard.

Valentine's Day 2009

Isn’t this a beautiful azalea plant that my husband gave me in celebration of the day? It will definitely get planted in the front yard away from the tiny terrors who are wreaking havoc on everything in the back. Actually, they aren’t so tiny anymore. They went for their last round of puppy shots yesterday and each now weighs more than twenty pounds!

Last fall one of my book-loving friends recommended a new series to me. The “Sookie Stackhouse” books (Southern Vampire Series), on which HBO’s True Blood is based, take place in a small fictional town in northern Louisiana. They’re filled with references to places and things that are totally familiar to me making them all the more fun to read! I got the boxed set of the first seven books for Christmas. I was going to make myself wait until the eighth book came out in paperback to purchase it, but when I found out the author, Charlaine Harris, was having a book signing in her hometown today… well, I couldn’t resist. Only 30 some-odd miles from my house, it was worth the trip to get a signed copy. I was going to post a picture of us together, but I had such a dippy look on my face I cropped myself out. So, you’ll just have to use your imagination to picture me next to Ms. Harris in this photo!
