(Least) Favorite Five - Bugs!

If you are an entomologist you probably like bugs, but I'm not and I don't. In fact, I don't think I could come up with five that I do like. So instead of making this a favorite five entry, it's going to be a least favorite five entry!

1. Worms - I can't stand any kind of worm. That includes millipedes, centipedes, earthworms, inchworms, tapeworms, any worms. The only kind of worm I want to come into contact with is the plastic variety I bass fish with.

2. Horse flies/ deer flies - The former are quite large and often found around swimming pools or watering holes. The latter are smaller but more aggressive and seem to be everywhere! I remember seeing horse flies when I was growing up in town, but don't think I ever saw a deer fly until I moved to the country.

3. Fire Ants - These vicious things are next to impossible to get rid of. Destroy a mound and it just pops up somewhere nearby. One of my worst encounters was the time I thrust my arms into a hay bale not realizing it was loaded with ants. I stopped counting the bites when I reached 100. The bites itch and sting for days! I've had more than my share on my feet, too. Oh, and when they do get on you... they stick like glue and have to be brushed off.

4. Fleas - With all the dogs we've had over the years it's a wonder we haven't had more problems with fleas than we have. They're definitely a nightmare to deal with when they get in the house... not to mention how miserable it is for the poor pups.

5. Ticks - Ticks are bad enough, but what I really hate are seed ticks! It's one thing dealing with a bug or two that is easily seen, but tons of them that are almost too small to be seen without a magnifying glass? Ewwww! I shudder at the thought!

This certainly doesn't cover all the bugs I hate, but these are the ones I hate most. Care to share any that bug you?

I think I hate cockroaches more than anything. Although I've only lived in one house with them, I detest them greatly! Silverfish, too.

1. scorpions (I have not seen any here in south AR, but I've had many encounters with them when I lived in Texas and their sting is extremely painful for many hours. I know this from personal experience)

2. spiders (especially black widows which are all around outside my house...I keep them under control but can't seem to get completely rid of them)

3. wasps

4. fire ants

5. biting flies

So, of course, with my wierd, wierd allergies, BUGS is a swear word. My five least favorites come from the ones that affect me the most..

Fleas.
Sigh. You have heard the stories. They love me. After an infestation, the marks from flea bites can last forever. Today, you can still see the ones from November. They're gone now. Let's hope they stay gone.

Wasps.
Another wasp bite might just kill me. Reminds me. Gotta go get that kit refilled.

Bees.
Same as wasps. They're just not that into battle with a human.

Cockroaches.
Not allergic. Just hate these critters.

Mosquitoes.
Going to Minnesota in a few days. Not looking forward to the Minnesota state bird...uh, bug.

OMG, not bees! Who said bees? Without bees, we'd have no food or flowers! I love most all bugs.

Let me see if I can think of 5 I like the least:

1. Brown Recluse Spider - Flesh eaters that hide!

2. Tomato Hornworms - Little green-horned bastards eat my tomatos.

3. Buck Moth Caterpillar - (I've been stung twice by them and it's like the fires of hell. I stepped on one barefooted and had a caterpillar tattoo on the bottom of my foot for 6 months.) They breed in Oak trees.

4. Cockroaches - No explanation needed. Flying ones are satanic.

5. Aphids - They eat my garden and harass my house plants.

I don´t hate bugs as such, but I hate fleas and lice.

And today we found some ants in one of our kitchen cupboards. I hate that!

4. Wasps (my brother is terribly allergic)
5. Mozzies (most annoying sound in the WORLD!)

I do admire bees. However, if they sting me, it's off to the hospital. Thus, one of my least favorites.

I'm with you on the worms ... my brothers made a worm ball (yes ... just what it sounds like) and threw it at me when we were little and I've never gotten over it.
