Public Speaking

I am not a public speaker. In fact, the mere thought of standing up in front of a group of people terrifies me. So how, you might wonder, did I allow myself to be talked into presenting a program for my church's UMW (United Methodist Women) General Meeting next week?!

I'm still trying to figure that out.

I'm going to do a presentation on "Writing Your Life Story" based on a book I shared in
an earlier blog entry. I've prepared an outline, practiced my presentation over the phone with my daughter, and feel fairly confident at this point. It's not like I'll be facing a hostile crowd, for heaven's sake! If anything, it has re-inspired me to work on a project I had unfortunately set aside.

Good for you, I'd hate to do it, even to the people at my church and I've been going there for over 30 years!

Go for it! It will be a friendly room, and all you have to do is tell the truth. You'll do great.

Way to go Sis!! I'll be thinking about you.

One day I hope I'll have the time and stress-free brain so that I can utilize the book. The past few years my head's not been in the right place for it.

You'll be just fine.
I used to hate public speaking until on one occasion I had to get on the microphone at an outdoor public party to inform everyone that the singer's music machine (like a karaoke machine) had broken down - and I had to fill in time whilst it was being fixed. It was then that I realised that folks like to be entertained and informed, and they're pretty nice about it even if the speaker is useless. Now you can't get the mike out of my hand.
Go for it! You'll be great.

Very best wishes from
Boonie

Thanks for all the support and encouragement. I'll post a follow-up later in the week and let you know how it goes.

There is nothing like facing one of your fears head-on to make you feel confidence and proud. You'll do great and feel great afterward. Once you get going, it will be much easier.
