Blood of the Wicked by Leighton Gage

Blood of the Wicked by Leighton Gage has been a popular choice for those participating in the Global Reading Challenge. I'm the second to review it this year and it completes my requirement for South America (Brazil).

From everything I'd read about the book, I expected it to be fairly good. What I didn't expect was to enjoy it as much as I did. This debut in the "Mario Silva" series opens with the assassination of a Catholic Bishop. From there the action never lets up. Violence, corruption, politics, blood, very likable good guys and extremely despicable bad guys!

Despite the fact I normally prefer cozy mysteries, this novel impressed me enough that I may seek out others from the series in the future.

You too? It was not far off my personal gore limit, but I was also caught up in it, and the fourth Mario Silva book was even better (and less gory).

Glad you enjoyed it so much and well done on completing South America.

I'm glad to see your ponderings are proving so popular with those who have voted. Along with your book reviews they are my favourites though I also really, really enjoy your Sunday Shadows as well.

Dorte - I have so many books lined up for my challenges (and otherwise) that I'll probably wait awhile, but I do think I'll read more Silva books. I like the character and I enjoyed Gage's writing.

Tracy - I didn't even think about adding my book reviews as a choice until it was too late. I guess that's my subconscious reminding me that I don't think much of my book reviewing skills! The ponderings are fun, though...and certainly "interactive".

Isn't it great when you get pleasantly surprised by a book this way?

Jenners - I'd much rather be pleasantly surprised than when you really look forward to one that end up disappointing!

Hi Kelly,

I see you've signed on for the 2011 Global Reading Challenge.
If you'd like to read another Silva book to complete the South American requirement, and you've got an e-reader, I'd be happy to send you a file for free.
You can choose one from my web site, or -- and this might be fun -- I can send you the new one.
It's called "A Vine in the Blood", and it won't be launched in the US until December.
Not a cozy, no, but less violent than any of the others.
And, hopefully, just as good.
Let me know, won't you, by dropping me a line through my website.
And, if you do, specify whether you'd like it to be Kindle or Epub.

All The Best,
