The title of my blog might lead one to believe that this is a place I come to share my opinions about the world and impart wisdom to the masses. Upon closer inspection, though, one sees that many of my posts are frivolous. That's because I view my blog as a way to escape the seriousness of life. It's a place I can relax and have fun.
Just because I rarely blog about world events or important matters doesn't mean I'm not aware of them or even knowledgeable about them. I consider myself intelligent, well educated, and fairly well read. However, I seem to have trouble expressing my opinions so I try to stay away from posts that might spark controversy or debate. Still.... I do have my opinions.
Thanks to the availability of news from cable channels and the Internet, there are ample sites to gather information and form opinions. I think this has both good and bad points. On the bad side, with a 24/7 format to fill on the news channels, there is a lot of filler as opposed to hard news and facts. Also, it's easy for one to get overwhelmed by the continuous coverage, especially in situations like the recent events in Japan. What is good, though, is the opportunity to draw from many different sources in order to form well-rounded opinions.
For that reason I try to vary the sites and channels from which I get my information. One of my favorite ways to do this is to consult my "Fluent News" reader on my iPhone. This free app draws stories from a wide variety of news sources. In addition to a section devoted to top news, stories can be broken down into more specific sections such as business, entertainment, sports, U.S. Opinion, etc. It's a wonderful tool for finding out what's happening in the world.

I liked the Fluent News post you sent to me yesterday.
That's good to know about. I'll file that away just in case I ever get an i-phone.
For years I never hesitated to express an opinion and could be obnoxious about it. I've mellowed considerably. Life's too short. And you know what they say about opinions. They're like navels. Everyone has one.
I-phone is a world I don't know. "Fluent news" sounds fun.
Well said Kelly. I often feel the same way, especially when there is so much misery in the world and theres me wittering on about neither 'nowt nor someit'. Still, we all need a place to escape sometimes.
INPUT Stefanie--INPUT--From Johnny 5! I find too much, and it's NOT REPORTING the facts--it's spinning a story for ratings!
Great post!

Pamel - You're always a good recipient. :)
Bob - My husband usually phrases that a little more crudely, adding the fact that most of them stink.
Algernon - You phrased that well. Iphones are a whole "world" of their own. I resisted for a long time, but don't regret getting one at all.
Tracy - Your blog is a great place for me to escape to, also. Especially on your "news" days.
John - I had to Google that. I should have known... Short Circuit! Been awhile.
I also have opinions about politics, religion etc, but I don´t voice them on my blog either. My blog is mainly about crime fiction, and I´d rather unite fans of my favourite genre than stir up controversy.
You've recommended such good apps in the past that I'm sure this one will be a winner as well. I do think it is important to get your news from several sources to help eliminate bias.
This is an interesting post.
I try to stay aware of the main news stories and those that have any tangible effect on me, but beyond that I'm disinterested. I try not to waste too much time, thought, or emotion on matters entirely out of my sphere and control.
I also get a bit bombed out by blogs that chew over the news. It's all second hand. I go to a news channel if that's what I want.
All the best, Boonie
I've had my iPhone for nearly 2 years and is the greatest invention since sliced bread.....until now. If you like your iPhone you will LOVE the iPad. AAPL is so far ahead of everyone else in the tablet market. Fluent News is my favorite source for general news along with the CNBC app.
I know what u mean about not wanting to voice your opinions and inciting a debate...especially when it concerns world politics, it just seems so useless!
I am VERY opinionated and often start controversies! But when it comes to blogging..well, I'd rather NOT discuss politics and world matters as seriously.
Like u said, enough is being written, telecast etc everywhere anyway.
Yes, Shadow is a VERY VERY special boy. And he IS very smart and healthy too. It is true, not many of our pure bred dogs will survive the first few months of life on the streets.
Shadow came home when he was 4 1/2 months old(M still writing his story and figuring out how to put tabs on my blog!)and he is 8 and half months now.
He is the darling of our lives and it just makes me SO SO angry when people dare to pass flippant comments about him.The comments do not matter..it is the audacity!
Dorte - And look how many books you've been responsible for me reading! (a good thing!)
Jenners - I hope you'll try this one out. Hey, it's free!
Boonie - We should all try to spend less time fretting about things over which we have no control. There are better ways to channel that energy.
Mike - I'm thinking my better half would benefit from an iPad. We'll see.
Aksharaa - People who don't understand how we feel about our pets don't realize how hurtful their comments can be at times.
I can totally relate to your thoughts regarding blogging/expressing my opinions.
I rarely blog about world events either; still i get my news from several sources.
Have a great rest of your weekend!
B xx
