Cows, cows, and more cows

We've been experiencing July/August temperatures in our neck of the woods lately.  It's been so hot in the late afternoon that my husband decided we needed to try fishing in the morning instead.  It turned out to be a good idea.  So good, in fact, that I was too busy catching fish to bother with taking photos from the boat!  My real plan, though, was to take some pictures of the cattle after we stopped fishing.  My husband always checks them and takes a head count each morning.  I knew it would be a good photo opportunity.
Remember, you can always click to enlarge the photo.

There's something about grazing cattle that seems so peaceful!  If you're quiet enough you can hear them!   I attempted a Haiku about it one time:

   Cows attack the grass
Tearing apart the silence
Heads never look up

This one decided to look up.  Excuse me, am I disturbing you?

Looks like the cow on the right is doing some baby-sitting.
Would that be calf-sitting?

Uh oh.... they don't like it that Jed and Suzy came to the pasture with us.
The calf on the left looks like it's about to charge at them!

This group is keeping in the trees.
Looks like they're keeping an eye on the dogs, too.

Look at the cow in the background!
She's grooming someone - or maybe it's a dominance thing.

Peeking over the hill to see if I've got anything for her.

More cows peeking....including Kelly (on the right in case you don't recognize her).
What's going on over that hill?

It's a shady watering hole - and there's Bully!!
It always scares me just a tiny bit when Bully makes eye contact with me.  After all, were're talking a good 1800 pounds of beef here!

Kelly and another cow have joined Bully for a quick dip.

My, that was refreshing!
(Kelly just can't seem to take her eyes off of me!)

When we first got our cows I took pictures of them all the time.  My original Yahoo360 blog was filled with cow pictures.  This blog, as you can tell from the small number of cow entries in the tag cloud, not so many.  Times change.

Love it!!! Also love the Haiku.

There is something peaceful about grazing cows. Maybe I need one to graze in my backyard....

Can you just see that?? Can you imagine how crazy that would make our pack?? LOL!!!

The dog days of summer are in full force here, too. Thankful for the break with 2 storm nights that brought much-needed rain but no storm damage.

Some great pictures Kelly, I think it is the eyes that make them seem so peaceful and serene. I especially love the photograph of the cows amongst those trees - its almost like they were sheltering from the sun.

I love the cows!

Pamel - I'm picturing you in your backyard scooping poop. Ahahaha!!

Tracy - I noticed, too, that one of those calves in the trees is almost red instead of black. We don't often have them that color.

Shelby - If I remember correctly you collect cow stuff. Our older daughter use to long before we ever had real cows.

Ha love the shots and the words! I'd be a bit nervous about the bull too.

We ended up with some cows in our front field last year, we still have no idea where they came from, but the horses there were not that impressed. :D

Bully would make me nervous too! And glad you got back to your "blogging roots" with this bovine post.

Creepy. Like the cows walking around the office building at night turning on lights in the Chick-Fi-let commercial.

Love your haiku and the great photos. That's a helluva lot of steak walking around. LOL! We finally got some rain storms the past few days to break our drought. Thank GOD, it's a bit cooler, too.

xoxo,
Marion

Joey - I don't know a lot about horses, but I believe they probably consider themselves superior to cows. :)

Jenners - Too bad we don't still have goats and donkeys. They were another of my favorite blogging topics.

Mike - "Eat more chikin"

Marion - I'm glad you got rain. We got a little (and cooled off for about 24 hours), but I don't think it was more than an inch. I'll take what I can get!!

But I am glad you diverted us with some cattle again. And it is so funny when they try to play hide-and-seek behind the trees. I can see you, guys!

Betty - The cows and I thank you. :)

Dorte - They really aren't the brightest creatures around, but they sure are cute when they're little.
