A quick rant

I try to refrain from ranting on here too often, but this is one of those times I just can't help myself.

I've posted twice about something that really, really bothers me - improper use of ATVs.  You can click here and here to see those rants.  This week I experienced yet another irritating (and dangerous) ATV scenario.  As I was driving down our county road I met a 4-wheeler going top speed with two young girls aboard.  In addition to the usual offenses (underage, riding double, driving on a public road) the driver had one hand off the controls, obviously looking at something on her cellphone!!  Arrrrghhhh!!!!

I have a feeling it's going to be a long summer.  *sigh*

Per mile driven, ATVs must have a terrible death rate. Recently a young girl died on one in our state. Every year it happens. But owners still deny the ATV is dangerous to an inexperienced young driver.

Hi Kelly, Glad to be back visiting you.

I agree with you on this, its one of the things that I rant about as well - that and people parking on the kerb and ....... I could go on but won't.

What I dont understand is how they can be shipped from the factory without rollbars. Surely the JEEP and the its accidents when they flip was enough. Ozzie Osbourne had an ''accident'' off one of those things.

I can't believe how many adults turn their kids loose with those things. Kids who have no business on ANYTHING motorized.

I'll never forget when my ex gave both my kids ATVs for some holiday and Jimmy promptly wrecked and broke his collar bone.

Very dangerous!

Betty - It was a beautiful weekend here!

WhiteStone - Deaths AND those who are left with brain damage from head injuries. Again, they rarely wear helmets when riding.

Tracy - I'm so glad to see you "out and about" again!

Vince - I'm sure that's in part because the manufacturers know that if used properly, there's seldom a need for a rollbar. It's all the misuse that causes problems.

Bragger - I bet you run across your share when you're out on your long-distance rides in rural areas.

Pamel - And what is worse is that theirs were 3-wheelers, which are much more unstable!

Kelly--That one was close to home Yes? This weekend there were 8 or 10 at the picnic- and it was soooo nice to see safety first!

GREAT RANT!!!

Most farmers have them here. And they start them on hillsides where they release the clutch and woooof the thing flips like a playing card.

John - Glad to know your crew was being sensible and safe!

Vince - It's on a slope that I'm most leery when riding, but then I don't get on one unless I really have to.

Bob - This particular rant can provoke a lot of eye-rolls in my neck of the woods.
