Favorite Five - Love Songs

Okay. I'm not a romantic kinda gal and I don't have a playlist on my iPod for "love songs", but... I've had a request for a Favorite Five post on this topic. Without letting myself think too long and hard about it, here's what I've come up with. I've included some YouTube clips, but they don't always do the song justice.

1. I Only Have Eyes For You (Art Garfunkel) - I remember listening to this as a teenager and my mother coming into my room singing along with it. I was surprised to find out it was a cover of a song that had been recorded several times before! YouTube clip

2.
Waiting For a Girl Like You (Foreigner) - This one brings back memories of a time that wasn't so pleasant. I try not to let that ruin the song for me. YouTube clip

3. Don't Want to Wait Anymore (The Tubes) - The memories are a little better with this one even thought they're from pretty much the same time period. YouTube clip (The studio version is SO much better!!)

4. Love Me Now (Gino Vannelli) - Actually, this song is best when listened to with the song that preceeds it on the album, Storm at Sunup. I use to listen to this in my college dorm using a pair of those huge headphones.... really, really getting into it. YouTube clip

5.
Ain't Nobody (Rufus & Chaka Khan) - There was a time where I used this as the personalized ringtone for my husband on my phone. YouTube clip

Worth mentioning: Your Song (Elton John), He Stopped Loving Her Today (George Jones), Unchained Melody (The Righteous Brothers), Shake You Down (Gregory Abbott), Run to Me (The Bee Gees), Sometimes When We Touch (Dan Hill), My Prayer (The Platters).

As always, I know I've left out some really good ones! What are some of your favorites?

I love this catagory, but it's hard to choose just the top 5:

1- Can't Help Falling in Love - Elvis Presley

2- Unchained Melody - The Righteous Brothers

3- True Love Ways - Buddy Holly (one of his few slow songs)

4- To Love Somebody - The Bee Gees

5- End of the World - Skeeter Davis

Also rans include: She - Elvis Costello used in the closing credits of Nottinghill. I'll Stand By You - The Pretenders. Smoke Gets in Your Eyes - The Platters. Could I Have This Dance - Performed by Anne Murray but written by Arkansan Wayland Holyfield. As Time Goes By - Dooley Wilson in Casablanca. I'll stop now.

Interesting post, interesting list – and I actually know a few of them. Love the Art Garfunkel one.
I like the, “Saved the best of me for you” by Barry Manilow and “Chan layo” by Amp Soawalak (you can find it on You Tube).

Have a nice day, Boonie

Johnny Cash, any.
Christy Moore, any
The Pogues, fairytail of NYC.
Most Italian opera.
And I quite like the Dixie Chicks. And another Texan named Jessica Clements. Trad stuff that by pluging it in can be Rocked.

*** Miss You Nights - Cliff Richard (Don't like the singer, love the song)
**** True Love Never Runs Smooth - Roy Oberson (or is it Gene Pitney?)

All of these are great. I'm in more of a Foolish Heart mood right now (Steve Perry).

I love having posts like this where I get imput from y'all. Interesting to see that both Marion and Mike picked Elvis, but different songs. Same thing with Pam and Tracy on the Meat Loaf. Oh...and from what I found, "Smokie" did that last song you mentioned.

I had to go to YouTube for some of the stuff Boonie and Vince listed. I don't know if I found the right song for Amp, but she has a lovely voice. And I was surprised to find Cristy Moore was a HE not a SHE! Great voices for both.

You know, Jen..I didn't even think about Steve Perry/Journey. Certainly some good stuff there!

I'm still hoping a few others will weigh in with their choices.

Most of mine are more recent, obviously. I know I've heard plenty of good ones from the 60's from riding around with my parents, but I can't remember names.

1. Everyday- Buddy Holly

2. Fearless-Taylor Swift

3. Heaven is a Place on Earth- Belinda Carlisle

4. Calling You- Blue October

5. If it's Love-Train (very new, but i'm also very obsessed with it)

Wow, I really had to think about this!!!

I loved that Art Garfunkel album and I also loved his "Angel Clare".

Here's my list:

1. Dixie Chicks... "Without You"

2. "The Nearness of You"... I think most of you have heard the story of what this song meant to my mom and dad.

I like Norah Jones version a lot, but I have to go back to what they listened to...

They loved the Hoagy Carmichael song from Frank Sinatra, John Gary, Judy Garland... I'm more of a jazz aficionado, and my favorite is the versin by Nancy Wilson.

You can hear all these through the magic of you tube.

Norah is on my list at #3. It's a duel between "I've Got To See You Again" and "Turn Me On". Maybe they're both more "Lust Songs" than "Love Songs". Exposing those inner thoughts again, Quid.

4. Amos Lee - "Arms of A Woman".

5. "Here, There, and Everywhere" - the Beatles. Timeless.

Also on the list... that Gregory Abbott song "Shake You Down" (one hit wonder) is one of my favorites of all time. Those of you who haven't seen the video, watch you tube. (Kell... I think this is a lust song, too.) Maybe we need a separate list. Garth Brooks - "The Dance" , "When A Man Loves A Woman".. I like Marvin Gaye's version better than Percy Sledge. "Because the Night" - 10,000 Maniacs. "Boulder to Birmingham" - Emmylou Harris. Bon Jovi - "Make a Memory". And any damn ballad Steve Perry ever sang.
That's enough. I'll be thinking them up all night.

"The Blower's Daughter"... Damien Rice. Beautiful song, terrible title.
