I didn’t plan to post another Favorite Five entry this soon, but I thought it would be appropriate after reading the post about Fairy Tales over at Pen and Paper.
Even though Disney has its darker moments (think about Bambi’s parents or Mufasa’s death in the Lion King), most of its stories are candy-coated. That’s a far cry from the way many of the traditional fairy tales were meant to be told. If you don't believe me, just go back and read the Brothers Grimm!
Some of my favorite fairy tales:
1. The Ugly Duckling
2. Aesop’s Fables
3. Shrek
4. Hansel and Gretel
5. The Three Little Pigs (check out this version my sister gave my kids when they were little)
Others: Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Elves and the Shoemaker, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk.

Thanks for that mention Kelly.
My five in no particular order would have to be
The Tin Soldier - actually this is my favourite, I always sob my heart out at the end.
Rapunzel - Up until I was 11 I could sit on my hair so always imagined letting it down so some prince could climb up.
Thumberlina.
The Princess And The Pea.
Rip Van Winkle - I always loved this tale, why I don't know and then when I got married my pa-in-law (as I lovingly call him) gave me this nick-name as he claimed I could quite easily sleep for 20 years.
I love Grimm's Fairy Tales and my daughter has my copy of the book. Let me see if I can find some of my other favorites that aren't so grim. LOL!:
1. Sleeping Beauty
2. Cinderella
3. The Princess and the Pea
4. Puss N Boots
5. Snow White & the Seven Dwarves
Hmmm, I see a Princess these going on here. LOL! Once a princess, always a princess. Blessings!
Just reading the titles brought memories. I love fairy tales. I always loved uncle Remus stories, br'er fox, and br'er bear, and br'er rabbit...
Rumpelstiltskin was a scary fairy tale.
For some odd reason I liked the Billy Goats Gruff. I don't remember being frightened by any fairy tale, including Hansel and Gretel. I just thought Hansel was a pretty bright fellow to leave a trail of crumbs to find his way back.
Snow White
Cinderella
Rumpelstiltskin
Hansel and Gretel
Red Riding Hood
Yep, I liked Billy Goat Gruff, also.
Sleeping Beauty
1. The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
2. 12 Dancing Princesses (Brothers Grimm)
3. The True Story of the Tree Little Pigs (the one from the wolf's perspective)
4. The Rough-Face Girl (Native American version of Cinderella)
5. The Cowboy and the Black-Eyed Pea (different version of the princess and the pea)
