Suzy's (not so) grand adventure

It's quite rare for my husband and me to leave home at the same time. Between all the dogs and the livestock, it's just too much trouble. Besides, I hate asking the house-sitter (pasture-sitter) to fool with the inside dogs since they're a little more "high maintenance" than the others. So... off went Mabel and Alice to the kennel. It was their second time to stay there and I think they handled it better than they did first time around.

Suzy had a different adventure. We took this as the prime opportunity to get her spayed and figured as active as she is it would be good to have her confined somewhere away from her sisters until the incision could heal a little. Her surgery was scheduled the morning we left town and of course I called from Vegas later that day to check on her. When we picked her up Sunday morning, she had already removed her own stitches saving us a trip back to the vet's later in the week. I should haved known if any dog would do that it would be her. She is SO naughty!! If anything, she seems to be worse than ever since we got back. She barks, growls, jumps up, climbs over the babygate, leaps unexpectedly into your lap wherever you're sitting, and worst of all....does not obey!! Doesn't she just exude naughtiness in these photos?? I've never had a dog that behaved like this. If I could find an obedience class anywhere around here I would sign up. One of us needs training!!

Poor thing might be upset because you left her. Is there a humane society or SPCA near you? They sometimes have classes and always have good advice.

Suzy sounds to be an absolute pickle. Adorable!
I used to have a little dog. On thse rare occassions that I put her in kennels I would swear that I could hear her screaming "You'll be hearing from my lawyer in the morning".
I had her spayed at 4 years old due to false pregnancies. It settled her down a lot. She became even more affectionate (if that was possible) and much more contented.

Please give the pooches my best wishes, Boonsong

Catch her ear and bite down on it until she cried out. She is moving in on your position as alpha female, something you had better halt quich-sharp. Otherwise you will never be able to trust her either off the lead or with children.
She looks a lovely hound. My one cannot prick her ears fully up like that ever.

Such a cute, cheeky little face. Obviously not only getting her own back for you leaving her but also for the trip to the vets - I'm sure she'll settle soon.

Oh, I used to do the same when I had Tara a pretty collie.
I was so sad every time I had to leave her.
She looks so cute!
Big hugs!

P.S. As for your comments on my blog..as far as I know curry doesn't come from turmeric. They taste quite differently. And thanks so much!
Always great to hear from you, Kelly.

I feel your pain. I have His-Royal-Naughtiness to contend with around here. I gave up on the 'required' confinement after his clip and chip week before last. He's healed nicely, so didnt seem to matter. It was just a nightmare!! He's just sooooooo tired of spending the majority of his 6-month-old life in confinement!!

He is naughty to the max! He's got the strongest herding instinct of any Sheltie I've ever had, including Bear. However, he tries to herd the dogs back OUT and not let them come in!!!

Suzy Q has that same impish look to her that Mr. Spanky does! LOl! I think much of Spanky's is as much too much confinement as it is puppy. Regardless, it's a 3rd high-strung kid around here! :)

She's punishing you for leaving her! Cody does that any time we have to leave him. LOL! They're such rascals. Love her picture. Blessings!

Nip it in the bud or you'll be sorry! She does look like a real smarty pants. Martin thinks she's so cute!
Here in France the SPA gives cheap obedience classes.

We found a lot of the info about crate-training Ralph online. I would have never believed, months ago, that he could learn, but he did. So there is hope . . .
