My husband loves to watch movies so it was a wonderful thing for him when he discovered Netflix. He will give most any movie a chance and it's rare he won't finish one he's started, especially now that he's not paying per movie. I'm a little more discriminating and have to weigh how much I want to see one versus anything else I might have on my agenda.
Here are a few that I opted to watch recently. Some were worth the time, some were not.
Iron Man 2 - So often sequels fall short and I heard that this wasn't as good as the first Iron Man. I heard right. It wasn't as good, but still entertaining.
Robin Hood - I hadn't intended to watch this since the Robin Hood legend has never been one of my favorites. I like Cate Blanchett and Russell Crowe, however, and decided to give it a go. It was not the Robin Hood story I remembered at all. If anything, the ending set things up for a sequel more along the lines of what I expected with this one.
P2 - This is a horror movie. Definitely not my preferred genre. It sucked me in, though, and I stayed with it all the way through. There was only one scene that had me wanting to avert my eyes.
To Kill A Mockingbird - It wasn't that long ago that I read this book for the first time. Several folks told me that the movie was very good, perhaps as good as the book. I won't go so far as to say I liked it as well as the book (that's a rarity in my opinion), but I did think it was very good. A book just provides so much more detail than a movie can. It did stay true to the central theme of the story.
Date Night - This was one of those comedies that had its share of funny moments, but didn't leave any lasting impressions. I enjoyed it while I watched it, but wouldn't tell anyone it was a "must see".
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - Based on a video game. I can see that it's probably a great game, but it didn't make the transition to the big screen very well. I didn't think it was very good.
Julie & Julia - This was my favorite of all the movies listed here. It's based on a book for which I've read glowing reviews. I haven't read it myself and don't think I will. I could be wrong, but I just don't think it would be as good in book format.

I so want to see Julie & Julia. I did like the book.
And I enjoyed Iron Man 2 because I just love Robert Downey Jr in that role.
I loved Robin Hood! T. needs to rent "The Hangover" ...what a riot! I don't always like those kinds of movies but I thought it was hillarious!
Iron Man 2 wan't as good as the first one.
I actually watched Robin Hood twice, once on my own then with Trish and the boys. You're right...it was sort of a prequel to the original story. Sort of.
Addicus Finch (sp?)...what's not to like? Loved the book and the movie.
Haven't seen Julie and Julia or P2. At least I don't think I've seen P2. I watch so many horro shows. As you know, I love them! :)
I loved Julie & Julia, too. My daughter has Netflix, so I can go to her house and watch movies. LOL! Saves me $$$$. We do watch lots of movies on the computer, too.
To Kill a Mockingbird was one of my favorite books/movies. I could watch it over and over. Ray's more into the Iron Man stuff and such. I don't do horror. Blessings!
I always like to read books before I see the movies if at all possible. Like you, I almost always like the book better. Sometimes the movies don't even come close to being as good, although To Kill a Mockingbird and The Blind Side are exceptions -- good books and really good movies too.
As for Julie and Julia -- Susan got the book, read about 30 pages and said she couldn't do it. I scoffed and thought she was being a bit close minded. I picked it up and couldn't even get through 30 pages. Absolutely could not stand the narcisstic, self-serving Julie character who told the story.
We got the movie from On Demand a few months ago and enjoyed it. Still didn't like Julie (although she was portrayed as a better person than she was in the book) but loved the part on Julia Child and thought Meryl Streep was superb. My advice: don't read the book.
Kelly,
I haven't seen any of the movies which you have mentioned. My most recent movies were:
-Breakfast at Tiffany's
-The Woman in the Window
I enjoyed both of them very much!
Thank you for your (private) response I am well and working on a new poem. With a hug,
Raven
I loved Julie and Julia...book and movie.
You know how I feel about "To Kill A Mockingbird".
Good post! Haven't watched many movies lately. Someone has me hooked on the Food Network.

To kill A Mockingbird is the only film on your list I've actually seen - one of those rare instances, I enjoyed it more than the book. Several of the other films you mention we are, however, waiting to see - Iro Man 2, Prince Of Persia and Robin hood are all on our list.
We watched Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland at the week-end - not too impressed with it I'm afraid though the scenery was beautiful.
Like you, I almost always prefer the book. So I agree, To Kill a Mockingbird is a fine film - but an unforgettable book. It is even one of those books I have shared with my daughters. It is an extra pleasure to be able to share such a great experience with one´s children.
Jenners - Robert Downey Jr is quite appealing in those movies, isn't he!
Pamel - We did watch The Hangover last Spring. The rest of the family liked it better than I, but it definitely had some funny moments. I thought about you with P2. Definitely your kind of movie.
Marion - how convenient that you can "borrow" your daughter's Netflix! One of my daughters has the kind that streams to her TV. We do the old fashioned postal service variety.
Bob - I'm glad you still watched the movie. We thought Meryl Streep was wonderful! She had Julia down to a T!
Raven - So good to see you posting and commenting again!! Would you believe I have never seen Breakfast at Tiffany's?? Audrey Hepburn, right?
Quid - Sorry. :) It's a good thing to be hooked on, though. Hope you saw my text in time to watch that old IC with Tsai. I DVRed it and haven't watched yet.
Tracy - I haven't watched the Alice in Wonderland yet and don't know if I will. Tim Burton puts out some really weird stuff!
Dorte - After we watched the film my husband asked me to dig out the book for him. He'd never read it, either. My younger daughter (who most shares my taste in reading) has it in her TBR pile.
Love anything Tim Burton. Bob - Loved "The Blind Side"!!! What a great feel-good movie!
We are such a Netflix family. We get three or four at a time and use the streaming videos, too.
We enjoyed The Blind Side, too, Pam.
Alg - If we went the streaming route, there would be movies on all the time around here!
