These days I don't follow any television dramas. That's not to say I haven't watched my share over the years, though. Here are some of my favorites:
1. Dragnet - "Just the facts, ma'am". I'm sure I watched some of the earlier episodes as re-runs, but the ones that stand out in my mind are those that aired after 1967 when Harry Morgan joined the cast as Jack Webb's partner.
2. Homicide: Life on the Street - In my opinion.... the absolute best of all television dramas! I have all seven seasons on DVD along with the wrap-up movie when the series ended.
3. St. Elsewhere - There have been several "doctor" shows I watched including ER, Medical Center, and Marcus Welby M.D., but St. Elsewhere still ranks as my favorite. I also enjoyed its "sister show", Hill Street Blues.
4. Law & Order - This show began in 1990 and, from what I can tell, is still going strong. I can't remember how many seasons I watched before I lost interest. Probably somewhere between five and ten. There are several spin-offs, but the only one I've watched is SVU. Interestingly enough, one of the actors from Homicide made the jump to SVU playing the same character.
5. Picket Fences - I guess the best way to describe this show is "quirky". It was a fun show with a great cast, but only lasted four seasons. Seems like I remember it ended without wrapping up any of the story lines.
Runners up: L.A. Law, Magnum P.I., Dallas.

11 comments:
1. Gray's Anatomy
2. House
3. Parenthood - Stars Lauren Graham who was the mother in "The Gilmore Girls" series. I'm hooked on it.
4. Castle - (You'd like this one, Kelly. The star is a mystery writer who works with the local police to help solve murders. It's great.)
5. Six Feet Under (I bought the entire series--it's an old one--all at once and I seldom buy DVD's. A fabulous show.)
No way can I stop at just 5! I can't even do just 5 categorizing by past and present!

I remember St. Elsewhere! Howie Mandell had lots of curly hair back then. That was a great show.
I never watched any of these! I'm not big on dramas ... but I love "Dexter."

stop at five)

and Kevin Whately
I, Claudius with Derek Jacobi
Centennial

Season 1-4 of The Gilmore Girls, my
favourite actresses here are Lauren
Graham and Kelly Bishop
The Good Wife with Julianna Margulies
Beauty and the Beast with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman
Oh yeah, I forgot The Good Wife!! (Thanks for jogging my memory, Raven!). I watch or DVR it every week!
Also, around here we all love "Merlin", last summer on NBC, lately, on Syfy.
I could only think of one - Dallas from my childhood - but then saw our people's lists and thought 'yeah I love that' so, in no particular order:-
* Ashes To Ashes - Typically British. Best described as a time- travel cop show.
* House. No longer available here in the UK unless you have SKY (we don't) so we've bought the box sets.
* Grey's Anatomy.
* Dexter - Like House, only available on SKY.
* Casualty - England's answer to E.R.
* Holby City - A spin-off from Casualty, based on a hospital ward rather than the emergency room.
Two of yours, #2 and #5, I have never heard of. Obviously I'm way out of touch. Only one I'm currently into is House.
Law & Order
ER (the early years)
CSI (Las Vegas)
St Elsewhere
Perry Mason (old and later)
Ok, 5 and 5.....
Now and past (thanks for the thought, Pam!)
Now:
1.Law & Order.... if I've survived all the cast changes (no Benjamin Bratt, no Paulie Sorvino, no Jerry Orbach, no Jill Hennessy, no Chris Noth, not enough Dianne Wiest..(seasons 11 and 12), will I survive the demise of S. Epatha Merkeson? Somehow I doubt it.
2.The Good Wife... like Raven, I'm truly amazed by Juliana Margulies. Oh yeah, I get my usual dose of Chris Noth, as well.
3.Damages... so dark. Glenn Close is scary. Kind of a "Memento" type show, but for TV.
4.Dexter... dark, too. I don't get the cable channel, so I'm ploughing thru the DVD's.
5. Mad Men. Same as Dexter. Have to watch DVD's because I don't get the cable channle. Really brilliant. Jon Hamm is a revelation.
OK... I had to do 6. Ray Romano's
"Men of a Certain Age". Andre Braugher. Ray Romano. Scott Bakula. Does it get any better than this? Some call it a comedy. Nah. Writing is brilliant. You'll see every middle aged quirky man you ever knew in this one.
(Drat. I left out "The Mentalist")
Then:
1. Homicide: Life on the Street - '
I'm with Kelly and I'm going to her house to watch all 7 and enjoy her cooking. It should take about a month.
2. St. Elsewhere - Is it better than ER... probably. But probably not better than the ER years where Clooney and Margulies were there. Tie.
3.My word, Raven, how I loved "Prime Suspect". I have it all, but unfortunately on videotape (with no player). I'll have to up the ante to DVR.
4.Hill St. Blues. I'm going there. Just a fantastic ensemble.
5. Cagney and Lacey. My heroes. Especially Mary Beth. OMG and I loved Tyne Daly in "Judging Amy". Tie.
quid
Hmmm...it's hard to pick favorites but here are some of mine not necessarily in any order.
Sopranos (more violent then I prefer)
24
Dexter
Burn Notice
Columbo
