The Day After

Looking around our house tonight you'd never know we just celebrated Christmas. I've never been one for keeping the decorations up after the fact, so the afternoon was spent UNdecorating.... not nearly as much fun as putting it out. Mission accomplished. Everything is back to normal in the house.

I wish I could say the same for everything outside. In yesterday's post I mentioned the large amount of rain we got in a short amount of time on Christmas Eve. Turns out the damage to our pond was much more extensive this time around. The gravel we had brought in for the repairs a month back is all gone, along with most of the road around it. Many of the items kept under our equipment shed are now somewhere out in the surrounding woods. The good news is that the pond is still holding for the moment. The bad news is that rain is in the forecast again for the coming week and it's too wet to try and make temporary repairs.

When I think of the horrible weather people across the US have been faced with the past few days I feel a little guilty moaning about our problems. They might seem trivial by comparison... but they matter to me.

Something you could well do without and especially after all the damage caused earlier in the year - I hope it doesn't rain too much.

Ah, you're not one of those families who leaves their Christmas halls decked through New Year's Day?

When you're cold, you're cold. A merry post-Christmas to you - and stay warm.

Hope the rains hold back for you!

We get all the Christmas stuff put away by NY but of course we don't put up the tree until around the 15th of Dec. Around the 30th, or 31st at the very latest, I spend pretty much the whole day dismantling everything and getting it put away until next year. Not a fun task, but I enjoy it when everything is back in place and fresh for the new year.

I spent the ENTIRE day yesterday UNdecorating the house and yard, largly alone. My back was killing me by the time it was all done. I think I started at around 9 and wasn't done until about 7. Nonstop. Sam helped in the yard a bit and Trish grumbled but helped me drag things to the garage or up into the attic.

Sorry to hear about the pond situation. Still patches of snow in the shade around here and a mix of snow, sleet and rain is due again on Tues. Feast or famine. I hope you get very little this time around.

Kelly, you are fast! Our family leaves everything up until New Year's Eve. Of course, my little tree just goes into a box and into the closet.

I'm sorry about all your rain and damage. My brother's wife drove down from Cabot to Bossier City on Christmas Eve and she went through some flooding. It's clear and cold here and we're packing up to go home in the morning. Stay dry. Blessings!

Wow... I'm way too lazy in the wake of Christmas to clean up right away. In my house, it is a tradition to put away the decorations while watching bowl games. I didn't take out very much this Christmas, so I'm pretty sure I can accomplish this during the Chick-Fil-A bowl!

The rain's a terrible thing, no less discomfiting than all the foul winter stuff hitting the midwest. Hope you can recover quickly!
