High Heels in Heaven

I posted an entry a few months ago in which I mentioned my two elderly aunts and how I’d made a conscious effort to spend more time with them. I’m so glad now that I did.

A tiny woman, my mother’s sister had always worn high heels. When she was first diagnosed with cancer and began treatments, she purchased a new pair of heels. Wearing them was to be her reward once she was well enough.
.
My aunt lost her battle with cancer this past week. She was 91. I know she had a full, generous and productive life. I know the past two years had been a real challenge. I know she had reached a point where she was ready to go. Still, selfishly, I grieve.

She was laid to rest yesterday in a blue suit and a pair of red patent leather pumps… with 4-inch heels.

Just the thought makes me smile.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your precious aunt, Kelly, but I had to laugh out loud about her heels. What a fabulous attitude she had! Thanks for sharing this heartwarming story. Blessings!

Makes me tear up to think about Lynnye in her high heels. But, I had to smile at what she was buried in. So wonderfully fitting.

I'm glad her suffering is over. My heart broke to think of her suffering. :(

Makes me smile as well, Kel. Especially since I really can't even bear 2 inch heels anymore. She was feisty.

I'm so sorry for your loss Kelly but it must be a comfort to think you made the effort to spend time with your aunt.

I had a similar situation with my great uncle - not that we buried hm in 4 inch heels but rather in the cap (as dirty and frayed as it was) that, in life, he wouldn't be without.

Ayway, thanks for visiting and leavng those kind words - they really meant a lot to both of us.
