Today is "Presidents' Day". I can remember a time when we acknowledged Lincoln and Washington separately. Now they're lumped together (along with all the others, I presume).
NBC news had a story last night about the latest ranking of the U.S. presidents. Lincoln came out on top with Washington second. One of my devotion guides for today also gave Lincoln that honor, making mention of Washington only as the "father of our country".
I've put a poll in the sidebar questioning your choice for the greatest American president. Please take a moment to register your vote. If you select "other", please leave a comment saying who and why.

I just cannot think of any other president who overcame the odds that Lincoln did to become president and the strides (no pun intended) he made historically. He's the man in my book!!
Ditto Marion L. He compassionately led the country at a time that it was bitterly divided. He also wrote some powerful speeches without the aid of a staff of speech writers.
You already know I picked Washington, Sis.
Poll seems to be working now.

Third time's the charm?
"You already know I picked Washington, Sis."
blah, blah, blah...LOL!
I picked "other". I feel the greatest president was Thomas Jefferson who said..."The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who are not".
I like this post, Kelly, because you correctly called this holiday "Presidents' Day," putting the apostrophe after the "s", making it a plural possessive, to signify that it is a day to honor all or our presidents. I have seen one too many ads saying "President's Day Sale" as if we were honoring the current president (he is included with the group, of course). I drive my family crazy with this kind of thing . . .
I could live with calling it Presidents Day, with Presidents being a plural adjective. Can't do "President's Day" though and consider it my moral obligation to correct the error when made . . .
I'm obnoxious. :-)
I don't have a pick for best president. Washington, I think does not get much attention or credit anymore aside from this "father of our country" sobriquet that isn't actually true.
Washington's farewell address is eerily prescient and worth reading. He had a sense of what we were getting into with this new country and gave us good warnings.
